Minehead Ladies 3

AFTER suffering cancelled games due to the weather, Minehead Ladies finally continued their campaign on Sunday with a 3-3 draw away to Cheddar.

They started strongly with some good passing across the midfield, and it paid off when a run by Donna Giles found her one-on-one with the keeper, who she beat to give Minehead the lead.

However, against a stronger Cheddar side than they faced the last time the sides met, Minehead found themselves on the back foot as the home side creating some good chances, and although the defence did well, Cheddar led 3-1 at half-time.

The second half saw Minehead turn the game around, posing the greater attacking threat and they pulled the score back to 3-2 when a corner by captain Morgan Smith was headed home by Giles at the far post for her second of the game.

More positive play and pressure led to Natalie Price crossing for Smith to slot the ball past the keeper for the equaliser.

With little more than five minutes to play, both teams held on for the draw as Minehead rounded off a fine second half performance.
