MINEHEAD went into their penultimate match of the season away to Berrow knowing that a point or a win would secure the title in Division Two of the Under 15 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.
Minehead started slow with Berrow defending well as a team, but all the hard work Minehead were putting in finally broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Harvey King netted with a low shot inside the penalty area,
Three minutes later Haiden Griffiths latched onto a pass from George Littlefield to find the back of the net and make it 2 - 0. Another two minutes later Sam Landon was fouled 30 yards out from goal and Harvey King took the free kick with the Berrow goalkeeper misjudging the bounce and seeing the ball hit the back of the net to make it 3-0.
With three goals in five minutes Minehead were well in control and settled any nerves. In the 33rd minute Riley Wild scored from 18 yds out to make it 4-0 after a smart build-up from the team.
Minehead kick started the second half in the same fashion as they finished the first half with Haiden Griffiths scoring his second in the 45th minute with a superb free kick from 20 yds out which curled into the top left corner after Sam Landon was fouled after going on a run and passing two Berrow players.
In the 64th minute Riley Wild notched his second goal from a corner with an acrobatic effort six yards out. With Minehead 6-0 up they were not finished and with the clock ticking down in the 78th minute Haiden Griffiths completed his hattrick and made it 36 for the season (currently the league’s top goalscorer) following a superb through ball from Erin Strong,
One minute later Riley Wild scored from close range to make it two hattricks for the team and take his personal tally to 15 for the season. Then in the 80th minute Harvey King completed his hattrick and took his tally to 34 for the season (league’s second top goalscorer) heading in from a corner bringing a superb team performance to a close with a 9-0 win and most importantly crowning them Division Two champions.
This was a complete team performance in all positions across the pitch which made the whole team Man of the Match by the coaches. Minehead have one last match to finish their season - away to Bishops Lydeard next week and then the celebrations can start on what has been a fantastic season for the Under 15s.
Minehead’s record to date is: Played 19, won 17, drawn one, lost one, points 52. Huish tigers have finished runners-up and well clear of third placed Nether Stowey.
