PORLOCK Ladies beat nine-team Wellington Ladies 9-1 at home in the first round of Somerset Women’s League’s Chairman’s Cup.
Both sides created early chances, but it was Porlock who broke the deadlock after ten minutes, when Sarah played a nice ball into the box for Chris to tap home from close range.
Shortly afterwards she grabbed a second when she slotted home the rebound after her initial shot was saved. After several more attempts, notably from Georgia's left foot, the 3rd goal came when she showed great composure in the penalty box to stroke tehe ball home.
Number 4 came courtesy of a long goal kick from Hannah who grabbed yet another assist, with Aimee latching onto the ball and striking it home. Before the break Wellington managed to get on the scoresheet with a great break and strike from their captain.
In the second half Porlock made better use of the extra space and Helen knocked the ball through to Georgia who dutifully scored, and she got her first hat-trick of the season a short time later. Jaegar's endeavours as sub were rewarded when she scored the 7th. Lauren also came marauding out of defence to hit the post with a long-range shot.
Porlock’s 8th came as the result of winning the ball from a Wellington throw near the half-way line. With the midfield able to switch play, Chris capitalized on space down the left to complete her hat-trick. The latter stages saw Wellington understandably tiring, and nice link up play between Chris and Georgia led to Georgia scoring her fourth goal of the afternoon.
Credit to Wellington for persevering to the end. Once again, the whole Porlock team played their part in this victory, with player of the match deservedly going to Chris. Porlock: Hannah, Kirsty, Lauren, Izzy, Rhiannon, Liz, Georgia, Helen, Aimee, Chris, Chloe, Sarah and Jaegar.
