PORLOCK beat Redgate 4-1 in a mid table clash in Division One of the Taunton Saturday League in a match from which both sides were looking to pick up three points and help them to catch the top of the table teams.
The game started off very slowly with just a few chances for both teams but nothing at either end came close to testing the keepers. Redgate were the first to find the back of the net, but the ‘goal’ was disallowed for offside.
The first goal came from skipper Adam Langdon who picked up the ball on the edge of the box and slotted Ollie Morris through. Morris then passed back to Langdon who tapped in to put the hosts ahead.
Redgate, who only turned up with 11, were then reduced to 10 men when one of their players was injured and couldn’t carry on. Porlock dominated the rest of the first half and just before the break they scored their second with a quickly played short corner that came to Jari High who put in a cross which fell to skipper Langdon again for his second goal of the game, making it 2-0 at the interval.
The home side started the second half slowly and didn’t make the most of their extra man advantage. At the other end Redgate kept attacking and were awarded a penalty which they converted to make the score 2-1.
As the game went on it became quite a scrappy affair with Porlock passing the ball as well as they could as the pitch began to cut up. Eventually, however, the home side extended their lead with a cross from Morris which a Redgate player ended up putting past his own keeper.
After the 70 minute the snow started falling and the game became very slow and the visitors, being a man down, started to tire. In the last few minutes of the game Porlock added a fourth goal to make the win secure. Dan Crooks made a good break down the right before finding Morris in the box to slot the ball in the back of the next with the help of a slight deflection. The Man of the Match was awarded to Jari High with a solid shift at left back, grabbing himself an assist and shutting down the Redgate right winger who hardly got a look in during the game.
This coming weekend, Porlock host Minehead in a local derby which looks likely to be a tasty affair. Will Porlock be able to claim the bragging rights for a second time this season or can Minehead get their first league win of the season against their local rivals?
