WATCHET Town will be looking to avenge a home defeat by Somerton Town early in the season when they play away to their rivals in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday, January 25.

Somerton won 3-1 at the Memorial Ground when they were bottom of the table but they have since improved and are now 11th and beat Stockwood Wanderers at home last weekend.

Aerron Clausen, who can play in most positions but missed Watchet’s 3-0 defeat at Uphill Castle last weekend, is expected to be available but young Riley Willis will be playing for Bridgwater United in the Jewson Western League.

Watchet are just above the relegation zone, having played more games than most teams around them, and club spokesman Nick Sully said: “Every game is now important to us. We are beginning to run out of games.

“We can’t rely on teams below us losing their games. We have to start winning matches.”

Watchet have found it tough going since being promoted at the end of last season, and have recorded only four wins in 21 league games. They are one place above the bottom three and five points adrift of the next placed side Uphill Castle who have played four fewer games.

Meanwhile Minehead, who are lying fourth in Division One, find themselves without a fixture this weekend - and could drop two places if Westfield and Imperial win their matches.

However, they have three successive home games coming up - against Peasedown Miners Welfare, Clutton and Stockwood Green.

Minehead have now dropped 11 points in their last five matches, having drawn four and lost one - not the kind of form which will win you promotion. However, they will be looking to make the most of the three matches coming up at Irnham Road.
