A full entry signed up for the Minehead Seniors Stableford on 8th February, when for those going out early putting, particularly on the front nine proved difficult due to the frosty conditions and icy surface of the greens.

Nevertheless, Malcolm Bruce set the standard and won with an excellent 38 points just ahead of Paul Saunders, who edged into second place ahead of Simon Thorpe after both returned with 37.

Many congratulations go to Nigel Moore who in the same competition achieved a hole in one on the 14 - thought to be the second time he has achieved this feat at Minehead.

On Friday, the Seniors played a Bowmaker with teams of three, the best two scores to count. Nine teams competed and enjoyed the calm and frost free conditions at the end of which it was Trevor Stephens, David Hannah and Sandy Lyons who were the winners with 85.

Just behind with 84 were Andy Giles, Jim Malarkey and Tony Connolly, while third place with 80 went to Phil Bowden, Kevin Garner and Edward Frewin.

The semi-finals of the Seniors Porlock Cup (a winter singles match play competition) were played this week. On Monday the first match between Steve Woodbury and Dave Ball proved to be a very tight affair, going to the first play off hole, where Steve Woodbury managed the win.

The second match played on Friday saw another very close match between Andrew Coward, who is attempting to regain the trophy, and Nigel Trevelyan. In a nip and tuck contest, Andrew’s strong back nine showing proved decisive.

The final will be played on Friday (24th February) with the presentation immediately afterwards.
