MINEHEAD Cricket Club juniors are all looking forward to the start of the new league season next week and the numbers attending both the indoor and outdoor training sessions on Tuesday evenings have been good. As the weather improves numbers attending the outdoor sessions will increase and new players are always welcome especially in the Under 15 age group. The Under 13s start their league programme with a home match against Taunton Deane Falcons on Friday 3rd May while the Under 11s and Under 15’s are both away on Sunday 5th May. It is ironic that groundsmen who have been working frantically to get wet pitches suitable for the start of the season are now finding the outfield on some grounds is already hard due to the high winds of late.
This Is especially the case where clubs stage football and cricket throughout the year. Groundsmen have had little time to adjust to the changing weather which has been extreme in both cases. Rain for much of this year has been followed by plenty of sunshine.
