DR HANNAH Thompson-Radford, who grew up playing cricket for the local men’s team at Middlezoy, has made quite a name for herself in the world of women’s sport.

Hannah attended Huish Episcopi Secondary School at Langport and in 2010 spent the first of a number of placements at Somerset County Cricket Club gaining work experience.

She then moved onto Richard Huish College before attending Loughborough University where she gained her doctorate in 2024, since when she has been appointed as Senior Lecturer in Sports Communication and Journalism at Swansea University. Hannah also played for Somerset Women as well as appearing for the Marylebone CC and touring overseas with the world famous club.

Hannah is now combining with Matt Kingdom to produce a History of Women’s Cricket in the region. Matt is a cricket researcher who is involved with the Somerset Cricket Museum. He spent his university placement studying for a Masters in Museum Management, and has worked on several papers on Women’s Cricket in the West.

She and Matt are inviting anyone who has either played or been involved with women’s cricket locally to go along to the Somerset Cricket Museum on Wednesday 22nd January between 10-12 noon. Hannah said: “We are trying to uncover the forgotten history of women's cricket in the region so we are inviting anyone who has played or volunteered within the women's section of Somerset to come down to share their stories.

“Hopefully they might also bring along any items they may want to donate to the museum. Coffee and pastries will be available!”

Hannah went on: “The aim is to provide a space for former players and volunteers to reconnect with one another and the club ahead of the new professional era. Hannah added: “I am also trying to write a history of Somerset Women alongside Matt Kingdom, to be released hopefully by Christmas!”
