HAZEL Hole from Minehead Running Club completed the Nottingham Outlaw Ironman on Sunday - the culmination of six months of almost ceaseless training.
Despite incessant rain after a 6am start, she battled through a 2.4 mile open water swim in just over an hour and a half, sailed through the 112-mile cycle in just over seven hours and completed the marathon in 4.20.05 - the 22nd best ladies’ time of the day.
Hazel had picked off 26 women by the time she finished just before 7.30pm, leaving her 58th lady out of some 130 starters with a total time of 13.26.08.
The previous Saturday, Matthew Bowden and Nigel Ridler travelled to South Devon for the Haytor Heller fell race.
Starting below Haytor Rocks, the route headed uphill and involved numerous technical descents and leg-destroying ascents across moorland, with a downhill half-mile to the finish.
Matthew completed the six-mile course in 49.21 to finish 28th, and despite a bad fall Nigel finished in 1.03.56, 153rd out of 253.
