MINEHEAD Hockey Club’s Ladies travelled the short distance to Taunton to face their local rivals Vale IV in a match which ended in a hard-fought 1-1 for both sides.

Vale started strong and lively, grabbing an early lead with a slow but decisive goal. However, Minehead showed resilience and fought their way back into the game. Their efforts were rewarded when Zoey found the back of the net, levelling the scores.

The midfield battleground was fiercely contested, with Amy and Gemma putting in a tireless shift for Minehead, winning possession and disrupting Vale’s attacking plays. Minehead dominated possession in the second half, keeping the ball largely within their attacking half.

Kate was a constant threat on the wing, effectively channeling Vale’s attacks and working the ball back into Minehead’s attacking D. Her skilful deflections at the post looked promising, but Vale’s keeper looked equal to the challenge.

Despite missing out on several short corners and trying a variety of routines, Minehead were unable to break the deadlock. Vale’s keeper was in excellent form, thwarting every attempt.

Ultimately, the game finished 1-1, a testament to the hard work and determination of both sides. Minehead’s strong team performance was reflected in the unusual four-way tie for the Julian’s Laundry Player of the Match award, which went jointly to Amy, Zoey, Gemma and Kate.

Minehead have a week off before returning to action at home on Saturday, March 1, when they play Isca’s second team. This promises to be a thrilling match as they take on opposition who are top of the table. All supporters are encouraged to come along and show their support for Minehead in what is sure to be a fantastic game and a stern test for the home team.
