MINEHEAD and West Somerset Seniors played their first Avalon League match (Division South One) of the season at home against Stockwood Vale.
A very encouraging start saw Minehead win 4-1 against a team who have been Division One winners for the past two years. Many congratulations to Captain Dave Oatridge and the team on an excellent performance.
The first social Seniors’ ‘bash’ took place on Monday . The format for the morning comprised a Bowmaker competition in which ten teams participated in less than ideal conditions; the winners were Martyn Westbury, Roger Read and Paul Rees with 78 points. In second place with 77 were David Hannah, Graham Smith and David Jack just ahead of Paul Thompson, Tim Evans and Noel Munson with 76 points. Nearest the pin on the 14th was Sandy Lyons, while Mark Ruttley took the honours on the 18th.
Minehead Seniors also played their second friendly home match of the season against Oake Manor Golf Club on Thursday.
Dodging the hail showers, the match went ahead resulting in a 6-0 win for Minehead. A meal was served by Claire’s Kitchen and, in the usual convivial atmosphere between the two clubs it was good to renew old acquaintances, both on the course and in the Clubhouse afterwards.
