MINEHEAD Seniors set out to defend the MET Shield they won at Enmore Park GC last year.
The tournament played between Minehead, Enmore Park, and Tiverton is a longstanding 4bbb Stableford hosted on a round robin basis.
This year’s hosts Tiverton won the event with 318 points, just edging ahead of Minehead (310) and Enmore Park (287 points) to regain the shield. Thanks go to Tiverton for being such excellent hosts.
On the home front, Edward Frewin won the Seniors C2 Trophy at Minehead, a matchplay competition started in April, overcoming Roger Read 6&4 in the final.
A large entry took part in the prestigious President’s Trophy - a club betterball competition. The scoring reflected the much-improved weather, many pairings achieving par or better.
Michael Bohan and Daniel Richardson took the honours with a superb nett 62 which included 10 pars and two birdies. In second place with 63 were Doug Hayhoe and Peter Young while Andrew Hill and Chris Peters were third with 64.
Winners of the Seniors 666 competition played on Wednesday were Mark Watson, Doug Hayhoe and Roger Read with an excellent 72 points. In second place on countback were Andy Giles, Graham Troman and Dave Ball, ahead of Mark Swallow, Trevor Stephens and Willie Brown.
