OVER THE course of the last two weeks, all three of Minehead Cricket Club’s junior teams have now concluded their fixtures in the Taunton and District Youth League for the 2024 season and each one of them have finished in mid-table in their respective divisions.
In their final match of the season the Minehead Under 11s played at Over Stowey where they came away with a fine victory. After batting first Minehead reached a respectable 263 in their 16 overs and then restricted Over Stowey to 250 from their innings.
This result meant that the Under 11s side finished ninth in their division of 12 teams. Reflecting on the season the under 11s coach Harry Tudball paid tribute to his players, who all gave a good account of themselves, despite many of them being in their first season of competitive games.
The under 13s were at home against Wedmore who batted first and posted a competitive score of 124 fr six from their 20 overs. In reply Minehead were all out for 110 despite Harry Pursey retiring after a hitting a quick fire 30 and Ben Cobb also retiring on 30 , while Lewis Denton ended not out on 15.
Coach Andy Dyer thanked his players and reflected on a number of close matches which could have gone either way as the team finished in ninth place out of the 14 teams in their division.
Finally the Under 15s completed their season with two fine victories.
At home against Quantock Allstars, Minehead made 169 for seven as Harry Swann top scored with 36, Ollie Ahern made 28 and Lennon Howe contributed 23 while Luke Jones took three for 24. In reply Teddy top scored with 34 and Albert Vickery ended with an impressive three wickets for one run to help see Minehead to a deserved victory.
In their last match at the Wyvern Club against Taunton St Andrews , Minehead Under 15s made 149 for nine in their 20 overs, of which Lennon and Sam Cobb were the joint top scorers with 32 runs each and with Noah James who hit 29 they led the way.
In reply St Andrews made 138 for nine as Henry Mason-Wilshaw retired on 50 and Tom Hill made 26 while Harry Swann took three for 22 and Noah James two for eight.
The Under 15s coach coach Brian Penny praised the players for a fine end to the season as they finished in seventh place out of the 12 teams in the division.
