A BUSY couple of weeks for Williton Bowls Club started with a friendly away to North Petherton, with the visitors winning on all three rinks.
Thursday, July 18 saw West Somerset League action with the B team losing 12-0 away to Burnham on Sea and the A team winning at Williton 10-2 beating Bridgwater A.
Saturday, July 20, saw Williton host Taunton B in the county league, Williton taking all 12 points to put them top of the table.
The following day saw Andy Fish, Rich Waterman and Phil Ash play the semi final of the national triples. Unfortunately, they lost by one shot on an extra end.
Alan Blackmore, Andy Fish, Derek Sully and Phil Ash played the semi final of the county senior fours, again narrowly losing by one shot.
On Monday, July 22, Williton women won on one rink in the Evelyn Yandel and the men 2 from 4 rinks and that was enough for Williton to win the Jack Stevens.
July 25 saw both Williton A and B at home. The B team won on 1/3 rinks against Mineahed B but that rink won by enough to secure the overall win 8-4. The A team played Burnham on Sea A and won 10-2.
Williton men were back in County league action on July 27 against third-place Weston Bath. Williton, fighting for a potential league title, managed to win the game well on all rinks, winning 12-0 to keep top spot.
On July 29 the women of Williton lost on both rinks but the men managed to win the Wilf Groves.
Thursday, August 1, meant the WSL came back around with the A team travelling to and losing 12-0 to North Petherton A. The B team made a long journey to Chard and managed to pick up 10 points.
On Saturday, August 3, Williton travelled to Yeovil in the county league, unfortunately losing 12-0 and putting a dent in their title hopes but with just two games to go, promotion is still in their hands with the league title also not out of reach - one away game to 3rd place West Backwell and one home game to finish the season at home against Bloomfield.
The league title may come down to the last game of the season with current leaders and 3rd place having to face against each other.
Tuesday, August 6, Williton ladies played the Ray Thorne at Minehead. The Minehead ladies won the Evelyn Yandel and the Ray Thorne.
With the season coming to its latter stages, all inter club competitions are being played with plenty of games to be played on finals weekend. Watch this space for updates of finalists as the results keep coming in!
