WATCHET Town began life back in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League with a 1-0 win away to Bishop Sutton, who were relegated from the Western League last season.
The Red & Blacks made life more difficult for themselves by not making better use of their chances and had to rely on a solitary goal scored midway through the first half by Alfie Cox.
Opportunities had been limited until a moment of rare quality saw midfielder Harry Scatchard's clever through pass release Cox for the youngster to go clear and round the keeper before finding the empty net.
A Sutton free kick shaved an upright, but with Charley Clausen again deputising admirably in the Watchet goal while new keeper Vinnie Jones nurses his broken ribs there were few home shots to contend with. Watchet looked the better outfit in a second half where they were seldom troubled at the back, but their failure to increase their lead left the issue in the balance up to the final whistle.
