MORE than 230 golfers took part in Captain Charles St George’s Charity Day at Oake Manor Golf Club, raising over £3,000 for Citizens Advice Somerset.
The highlight of the day was a unique “tee off the roof” event where competitors hit their tee shots from the roof of the Captain's House adjacent to the 12th tee using a specially constructed scaffold tee.
Prizes were also on offer for a hole in one on any of the par 3s on the course; in particular they could win a motorbike on the 10th hole, thanks to Total Triumph. Unfortunately none of the competitors managed an ace on the day.
The team competition was won by Jonathan Owen, Alexander Pearson, Lee Bowey and Daniel Owen. The second placed team were William George, Russell Jones, Jordan Clapp and James Boyland.
Longest drive prizes on the 12th hole went to Thomas Trowbridge for the men, Charlotte Bolton for the ladies and Simon Rudd for the seniors. Carl Whittaker was nearest the pin on the 6th hole for the men and Neil Hallett was nearest the pin on the 14th for the seniors.
A charity auction was held on the day, including a selection of golfing memorabilia generously donated by the Kate and Justin Rose Foundation.
Commercial Sponsors of the event were: Albert Goodman; Lentells; Lloyd & Whyte; Parker Scaffold; Somerset Motorhome Centre; South West Cleaning Services and Total Triumph of Taunton.
