PORLOCK gained revenge for an away defeat by Minehead Reserves last season when they beat their neighbours 3-0 away in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday League.
On what was a slow and sticky pitch Porlock started poorly and could.not get a foothold in the game meaning the young and energetic Minehead side had the monopoly of the ball in the early stages but were unable to create any clear cut openings.
Porlock gradually started to string some passes together in what was a very scrappy game. From a corner they had the best opportunity so far when several players had a stab at goal in a chaotic six yard box free for all but somehow the scores stayed level.
However, not long afterwards Porlock did make the breakthrough from the penalty spot when Ollie Morris was bundled over in the box, Jari High stepped up and convincingly slammed his penalty down the middle.
Porlock now started to get a foothold in the game but were unable to create any further chances and went in 1-0 up at the break.A
After a half-time talk Porlock looked to up the tempo and make a fast start and they did just this, winning an early corner, Jari High then delivered a pinpoint ball into the box where an in form Chris Barrett met the ball with his head and gave the Minehead keeper no chance to make it 2-0.
Despite being behind the hosts were still looking to create chances of their own but didn’t cause any serious threat and were kept at bay by some solid defensive work.
Porlock all but put the game to bed with around 15 minutes to play when a nice team move resulted in Harry Scatchard pulling the ball back across goal from the right side of the 18 yard box to strike partner Barrett who produced a tidy side footed finish into the bottom left corner to make it 3-0.
The game started to level out again in the last 10 minutes with both sides pushing for goals and Porlock could have added a couple more but it wasn’t to be and the game finished 3-0.
This was a tough game for the Robins but the team showed good heart and ground out a good result even when their game plan didn’t quite come off, and they were more than happy to take a clean sheet and three points back to Porlock.
The Robins return back home this coming Saturday to take on a tough North Petherton side as they look to make it four wins from their first four league games. Galmington are the crurrent leaders with 12 points from five matches.
