MINEHEAD Barbarians will be chasing a rare rugby double when they play at home to St Bernadettes Old Boys in Counties Two Somerset this Saturday, March 1 (2.30).

The Babas, who are lying fourth in the table despite their 39-24 loss at Avon, beat St Bernadettes 35-24 away when the sides played each other in mid-November.

“Hopefully, we can field a stronger side than we did at Avon,” said Minehead’s head coach Mick Orton. “However, it was a great game at Avon. “Both sides wanted to play rugby and, of course, it would have been nice if we had won. They are a great club and a good side.

“It is disheartening sometimes when you cannot play your strongest side for away games, but that’s the way it is. Other clubs have the same problem and it’s something you have to live with.”

Miinehead Barbarians 2nd XV, who are also lying fourth in Counties Four Somerset South, have no match this weekend.

Wiveliscombe lst XV will also be chasing the season's double over Bideford when they play the North Devon side at The Rec in Counties One Western West (2.30p.m.). Wiveliscombe beat Bideford 13-10 in mid-November, but have since lost four successive games and will be keen to get back to winning ways.

After hammering Tor IIs 90-0 at home last Saturday, Wiveliscombe 2nd XV go into their home game against their Yeovil counterparts in Counties Four Somerset South only four points behind leaders Martock with a crucial game in hand.

Martock have no match this coming weekend which means Wiveliscombe can go above their title rivals if they beat Yeovil - with both teams having three more games to play. Wiveliscombe are due to play at home to Martock on Saturday, March 22, which should decide which side finishes as champions.
