WITH Exeter hosting their first meeting of the autumn on Thursday, the new national hunt season is now underway.

Jeremy Scott updates us on what is going on at his yard high up on Exmoor.

He says: “September has blown itself out and October brings the jumps season to the forefront of the mind!

“We only had a few runners through September. Fair Dinkum and Kings Castle ran well but both have had a long campaign and are now enjoying their holidays.

“We have had a couple of weeks transitional period where the Summer horses have run their final races for the season and are on a break while the winter horses are just waiting for the ground and their final few bits of work before heading to the racecourse.

“The nights are beginning to draw in and the temperature is definitely dropping. We have had a couple of glorious Autumnal sunshine days but we have not enjoyed the hideously wet and windy weather that has also shown it's face!”

Jeremy went on: “The horses have had their work stepped up this month as well as schooling the handicappers and teaching the young horses.

“It has been great to welcome various owners up to see their horses on the gallops.”
