IN ONE of the highest scoring matches of the season Bell All Stars, top of the Premier Division in the Watchet & District Skittles League, broke the 700-pin barrier this week with Andy Milton falling three pins short of the highest away score, hitting 142, writes Alan Bulpin.

He was closely followed by Adam Taplin 135 and Barrie Jones 130 as they defeated Bottoms Up by 25 pins. For the home side Brandon Walsh scored 139 and Mathew Phillips 129 were in excellent form in a superb team score of 683.

Allsorts’ hopes of title glory look to be over after a they slipped to a three-pin away defeat at the hands of Rebels for whom James Parish hit an impressive 121, Peter Horton led the Allsorts scoring with 102.

Q C Guys’ Mike Stout knocked 104 in their 15 pin home defeat to Jack whose Andy Pyne hit 106 and Eben Harding scored fine 124 for Phoenix Knights but a 111 from Tyrone Ash helped Three Ferrets to a comfortable 28 home win. In their battle to avoid the drop Chris Weetch hit 102 for White Horse Stallions as they overcame Castaways by 8 pins whose Stephen Dole scored 97. Highest away score: Archie Walsh 145 (QC Guys).

Barn Owls lead Division A even though they slumped to a 22 pin away defeat to Dungbeetles whose Steve Sandford hit 110 with George Pike and Dean Marchant scoring 104 apiece for the Owls while Combwich Otters’ Lee Jones hit 113 as they inflicted a 36 pin home defeat on Outsiders, Adrian Roberts scoring 86. Highest away score: Shane Yaw 135 Railway Steamers.

Stuart Mitcham with 109 helped Has Beens to a dominant 57 pin home win over Williton Club whose Roger Mitchell scored 96.

Wyndham Pinheads remain in top spot in Division B after a Robbie Whitehead hit a noteworthy 116 in the resounding 83 pin home win over Badgers who had Sean Gale scoring 89 and a match winning 121 from Footy Fockers skipper Michael Shopland eased them to a 54 pin home success over Dizzy’s Boys who had Robin Williams hitting 110.

Quantock Stags Peter Hadfield and Graham Bolt hit 92 apiece in the 21 pin victory over Legion Specials whose Dave Perkins also scored 92. A top of the alley score of 116 from Chris Williams led Wyndham Warriors to a narrow 7 pin home win against Haddon Hillbillies whose Kenny Ware hit 103.
