EXCITING plans are underway for major celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of Exmoor National Park.

On #ExmoorDay, October 19, and beyond, the National Park Authority will be celebrating everything that makes Exmoor special with a variety of events and activities.

The milestone anniversary will see a range of activities and festivities organised, bringing together local communities, visitors, and nature enthusiasts to honour the park's rich history and stunning landscapes.

Here is a summary of the exciting events coming up

The Exmoor Feast - spend a day in Exmoor learning to forage, butcher, and cook game, ending with a wild food feast around the campfire.

It’s a hands-on day where you'll learn open fire cooking, hot and cold smoking techniques, and how to prepare game meat.

£95 per person or £170 for two. Saturday, October 19, from 1.30pm to 8pm.

The Dark Skies Talk - join astronomer and author of the official guide to Exmoor's International Dark Sky Reserve for a fascinating talk at the Exmoor National Park Centre in Lynmouth.

Seb Jay uses clever software and his astronomy expertise to guide you through the night sky.

Saturday, October 19, from 2pm, £5 per person.

Great Bradley Bridge - a new bridge at Great Bradley will be officially opened on #ExmoorDay, Saturday, October 19.

Spanning the River Barle, the bridge will provide a secure, sustainable route along the Two Moors Way between Tarr Steps and Withypool. It has been constructed with a recycled steel structure and features sustainable timber deck and handrails.

Caremoor ’70 for 70’ walk - the National Park Authority has teamed up with 'Big Team Challenge' to support CareMoor for Exmoor.

You can complete the 70 miles however you like — over days or weeks, alone or with others, either virtually at home or in the beautiful Exmoor countryside. You can walk anywhere, anytime to complete your 70 miles.

Exmoor Farms: A Year on the Moor Exhibition and book launch - supported by the Exmoor National Park Authority Partnership Fund, this project, written by local farmer Victoria Eveleigh and photographed by Eleanor Davies, provides an engaging look at modern farming in one of the UK’s most unique upland areas.

The Dark Skies Festival 2024 - highlights of the festival include Dark Skies Yoga, planetarium shows, family stargazing, wildlife walks, and astronomy talks and suppers.

Starting Friday 18 October to Sunday 3 November.

70 sites for 70 years - Dr Lucy Shipley showcases 70 of Exmoor’s unique sites in a captivating new blog series that traces its history from the Mesolithic Era to World War II. New blogs will be added each week leading up to Exmoor Day and our 70th birthday.
