SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons is under fire for the state of storm gulleys and ditches around its Vulcan Road, Minehead, store.

Town councillors have written to the company urging it to carry out ‘immediate maintenance’ of those areas under its responsibility.

Councillors also agreed to raise the issue with Somerset Council amid fears of a potential flooding risk.

They discussed the poor condition of ditches and storm gullies around Morrisons at their last meeting and noted there was an urgent need for attention to ensure proper flood alleviation.

Councillors were also concerned about broken parts of a fence along a footpath which posed health and safety risks, as well as streetlamps which were not working on an unadopted roadside which remained under Morrisons’ ownership, and said there was overgrown shrubbery which required a ‘general tidy-up’.

The Free Press reached out to Morrisons for a comment but did not receive a response.
