A WEST Somerset football club has gone from hitting the back of the net to hitting the right notes with a novel fund-raising initiative to help raise £5,000 for a team minibus.

Alcombe Rovers, who play matches on the King George V playing field, in Minehead, have recorded a Christmas song and music video which will be released shortly.

Commercial manager Brian Hall said: “We are aiming to raise funds to purchase a reliable minibus that will be used by our teams and support the local community.

“Every penny we raise will go directly towards this goal, helping us keep football accessible for everybody in our community.

“By supporting this campaign, you are not just helping us buy a minibus, you are investing in the future of grassroots football and the young people in our community.

“You are helping us continue our proud tradition of providing football for all, creating lasting memories and opportunities for the next generation of Alcombe Rovers players.”

The club has a JustGiving online fund-raising page where donations can be made and which has already brought in more than £1,000.

Mr Hall said: “Let us bring some festive magic to our community together, on and off the field.”

He said Alcombe Rovers was founded in 1947 to bring people together through the ‘beautiful game’, offering a sense of unity and hope during a challenging time shortly after the end of the Second World War.

Although the club had to drop out of the local Taunton and District Saturday Football League in 2022, it was able to rejoin last year and is currently looking to achieve promotion up through the divisions.

Mr Hall said Alcombe Rovers had been a cornerstone of the community for more than 75 years, proudly serving generations of young players, giving them a place to learn, grow, and develop both on and off the pitch.

He said: “Our club is built on values of teamwork, respect, and passion for football.

“Over the decades, we have provided countless young players with opportunities to play, regardless of their background or ability.

“For many, Alcombe Rovers is more than just a football club, it is a family.

“It is where friendships are made, life skills are learned, and where the love for football is passed from one generation to the next.

“As an amateur club, we rely on the dedication of volunteers, players, supporters, and the generosity of our community.

“However, like many grassroots clubs, we face financial challenges in keeping up with the growing needs of our players.

“Our most urgent need right now is a minibus to help transport our teams to away matches, tournaments, and community events.

“For years, we have relied on players, friends, family, and volunteers to get our players where they need to be, but this is not always possible.

“A minibus would be a game changer for us.”

Mr Hall thanked Hive Recording Studio and Deep Focus Media for helping the players record their Christmas song and video.
