MARKING 80 years since the end of the Second World War should not be ‘just a celebration’, Holford parish councillors have agreed.

Councillors accepted a view put forward by villagers that VE Day on May 8 should also reflect memories of the turmoil and the state of Europe at that time.

They were told the village’s St Mary The Virgin Church would be open through the day and into the evening as a place for ‘quiet reflection and personal prayer’.

There would not be a formal service, but possibly some local village pictures could be on display which might be a recollection and a focus for anybody visiting the church.

Cllr Mo Young was asked to liaise with the village hall to ensure a suitable activity there.
