A NEW apprentice has been recruited to Exmoor National Park Authority’s (ENPA) team of rangers.
Logan Schofield, aged 18, has joined the ranger team to learn and develop new skills, knowledge, and qualifications.
He will work on everything from public access management to engagement activities, nature recovery, and heritage conservation project work.
The apprenticeship is part of the Exmoor Pioneers programme, which aims to nurture connections between people and the landscape, nature, and heritage of the old royal forest of Exmoor around Simonsbath.

A skills programme as part of Exmoor Pioneers will provide opportunities for at least 10 young people over the course of the next four years.
It has been made possible with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and by contributions from the Cynthia Hadley legacy via Caremoor, and by BMW.
ENPA access and recreation manager Dan Barnett said: “The standard of candidates was incredibly high, but Logan demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm and dedication that will be a real asset to the team.
“We hope working with our rangers, who have a wealth of experience, will help offer Logan some of the best training and expertise available.
“He will gain skills in ecology and conservation, access and land management, education activities with young people and adults, surveying, and risk assessment.”
Previously, Logan has been an Exmoor Young Ranger and has enjoyed events offered by the national park for young people since he was 14 years old.
Logan said: “I cannot put into words how excited I am about becoming an apprentice ranger.
“I have already been out with team getting involved in everything from wildlife management to rights of way.
“This is the kind of role I have wanted since I was little and I am hoping the practical skills and qualifications I am gaining will really help in my chosen career path.”
