MINEHEAD MP Rachel Gilmour has marked her 100th day in office by placing local transport infrastructure across her constituency at the top of the priority list.
In July, MP-hopeful Rachel Gilmour (Liberal Democrats) pledged to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and better support local services as part of her campaign to become Tiverton and Minehead’s local champion in Parliament.
On Monday (October 14) – just 100 days since winning the election – Mrs Gilmour has stated that local transport improvement remains one of her top priorities.
In her first 100 days, Rachel has been working with her transport advisor, David Northey, the former head of strategic planning at Great Western Railway, to discuss both train and bus link improvements in the constituency, including exciting plans for new bus services in West Somerset.
In Parliament, Rachel gave her maiden speech on Monday, October 14 - highlighting the plight of Tiverton and Minehead residents facing huge difficulties due to limited travel links, both within as well as outside the constituency, limiting opportunities for constituents.
She has described her proudest achievement as the amount of local people she has been able to help in the first 100 days in office. The MP’s office has taken on hundreds of cases across the constituency, responding to residents and listening to their concerns.
Mrs Gilmour, Liberal Democrat MP for Tiverton and Minehead, said: “I’ve had such a rewarding first 100 days as Tiverton and Minehead’s Member of Parliament and couldn’t be prouder of our track record so far.
“We’ve reached every corner of our fantastic community. But the hard work is just getting started.
“After years of Conservative failure, the first 100 days is only the beginning of getting real change for our area. Tackling the issue of local transport services is one of my top priorities.
“I’m excited to keep fighting on behalf of people here in Tiverton and Minehead – championing key local issues all year round, not just at election time.”
Rachel and her team will be holding constituency surgeries in Tiverton, Minehead, Wiveliscombe, as well as at Cutcombe Market, and welcomes constituents to contact her team to book an appointment: [email protected] or 07356 087010.
