MINEHEAD Repair Cafe returns to the town centre next week after a Christmas break, with more people expected to attend as its reputation spreads.

The monthly repair cafe only started last October and is held in the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, from 10am to 12noon.

The next session on Saturday, January 18, offers tea, coffees, and cakes for people who choose to wait for their repair, although it is cash only.

In November, repairers Laurie and Morag repaired a zipper in a woman’s coat which held fond memories for her.

The seams and lining had to be unpicked and the zip lined up to make sure it worked, and the customer was delighted with the results.

A number of people took in jewellery items and clocks which were successfully repaired, and items such as garden tools were sharpened.

A spokesperson said: “If you have jewellery items that need fixing or other items that need soldering or braising, please do bring them along and we will see if we can help.

“We do not charge for our services but would ask you for a donation to cover our running costs.”

Minehead’s very first repair cafe visitor in October took along two kettles to be repaired, one of which was viable but the other not.

Clocks, wheelchair foot rests, small electrical items, shears, and tools also appeared as Minehead Deputy Mayor Cllr Anne Lawton and local MP Rachel Gilmour both visited.

Anybody interested in volunteering should go along or email [email protected].
