A BOYS’ own dream to work on a steam train could be realised for several people living in West Somerset.

The West Somerset Railway (WSR), which runs the longest heritage line in the country from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, is recruiting a number of new workers.

Jobs are available within its mechanical engineering department, which maintains the WSR’s home fleet of locomotives and carriages alongside its contract engineering business.

A spokesperson said: “These roles are primarily based at our Williton or Minehead sites, though you may be asked to work at other locations for maintenance purposes.”

The full-time jobs available include boilersmith, carriage and wagon fitter, and engineering labourer.

Among the benefits is free travel on WSR steam trains and UK discounted rail travel.

The deadline for applications is Friday, January 10, and anybody interested can obtain an application pack or arrange an informal discussion by calling Sam Eastaugh on 01643 700407 or emailing [email protected].
