TRADERS in West Somerset were warned to watch for fake £20 notes after criminals used some on Monday (March 31) to pay for goods.
A police spokesperson said: “Please be vigilant when accepting cash payments.
“We dealt with an incident in the Minehead area where counterfeit £20 notes have been used to pay for goods.
“The counterfeits used are £20 notes with an image of King Charles and a serial number of BB81275037.”
The Bank of England advises businesses to focus on two key security features to help confirm notes are genuine, the hologram which when tilted should show the words changing between ‘Twenty’ and ‘Pounds’, and the see-through window which should have a gold metallic image on the front and silver on the back.
