VILLAGERS are being asked for their thoughts on the future use of the Old School Centre, in Porlock.

The parish council is consulting residents after news that Porlock Information Centre is to move out on November 1 and relocate to Vale Yard, in the village High Street.

The information centre, managed by Porlock Vale Community Interest Company (CIC) has entered a joint venture with the village’s Miles Tea and Coffee Co.

The Old School Centre will continue to be home to the parish council, the Lovelace Centre, and a community library.

Parish councillors see the move as an opportunity to consider how to make best use of space in the centre and are asking residents to have their say.

Council clerk Johnathan Jones said the space left by the information centre could be divided in two for separate uses or used together, possibly for community services, or commercial purposes, or a combination.

The information centre space is measures about 38 ft by 20 ft and has a store, toilet, and kitchen facility, but could be converted to two separate areas of about 16 ft by 20 ft and 22 ft by 20 ft.

Councillors will discuss ideas at their next meeting on June 12 and consider the next steps for deciding the centre’s future.

Mr Jones said residents should send their suggestions to him by emailing to [email protected] or via the council’s Facebook page, by post, or by calling into the office between 10 am and 12.30 pm Monday to Friday.
