A FRESH opportunity for Porlock Vale residents to have IT equipment safely repaired will be on offer when the next Repair Cafe event is held on August 17.
The Somerset Council-funded Fixy van will be part of the event, which is taking place in Porlock Village Hall.
Fixy operates as a mobile tech amnesty point for smart tech donations such as mobile phones and laptops.
It ensures items are repaired and sensitive data wiped from no longer wanted devices which can then be found a new home.
The van will be at the Repair Cafe between 10 am and 1 pm.
Spokesperson Ian Burke said: “Both our repairs and the tech amnesty help the environment by re-using items that would otherwise have been thrown away or left unused.
“All donations are given to Donate IT, a local community interest company which refurbishes the tech and distributes it to people, schools, and groups who need them, helping to address digital poverty.”
The Repair Cafe’s volunteers will also be offering their usual service to fix as many different items as they can so they can continue to be used.
Among the items the Fixy van wants to take are laptops, tablets, PCs, desktop computers, towers, mobile and smart phones, hard drives, game consoles and accessories, digital cameras, smart wear and smart devices, docking stations, and port replicators.
Fixy also wants power supply cables, AC adaptors, and mains power and ancillary accessories to allow re-use, while items using an iCloud account need to be unlocked and unlinked.
