‘AMAZING results’ have been achieved in the recovery of a Somerset man seriously injured in a holiday car crash in Portugal and he could be discharged from hospital by the end of November.
Finn Webber, aged 23, of Combwich, is currently in a rehabilitation ward in the Dene Barton hospital unit, Cotford St Luke, after family and friends raised more than £56,000 online to fly him back to the UK.
He had been left in a coma in a Portuguese hospital after being cut out of the car wreckage with head injuries, a broken leg, and a dislocated hip.
His mother Alessia, known as Ali, said in an online update Finn was now ‘doing really well and achieving amazing results thanks to his strength, determination, and positive attitude’.
She said: “We cannot believe how far we have come in such a short period of time.
"We could have not done it without the support of so many.
“We are so thankful to all of his friends that took time to come and visit him, some from a considerable distance, and for everyone that reached out to him or his family.”
Mrs Webber said the fractures were healing and Finn was starting to become more mobile, and he had even been allowed out of hospital for a short visit home and also to have a family meal.
However, she said Finn’s brother Sam’s fracture was not healing as well as expected and he would remain on crutches for at least another six weeks, although his sister Isobel was now using only one crutch and had started to walk without it when at home.
All six members of the Webber family were injured when an oil tanker crashed into the two cars in which they were travelling.
