NEW resources have been received for Minehead Middle School’s library and forest school thanks to the town’s Poppins Children’s Community Project.

The school was successful during the autumn term with a grant application to the project, which is run by the Poppins children’s community shop, in The Avenue.

Now, the school library can run its weekly boardgame club with an even larger choice of games, while the forest school has received replacement new equipment, including a trolley which will help students safely and efficiently transport tools to their nature garden.

Headteacher Laura Mackie said: “We are extremely grateful to Poppins for their ongoing support of Minehead Middle School and the contributions that they have made to enriching our children’s experience.

“Our place in and links with our community are so important to us and we look forward to inviting Poppins back to see the children enjoying these resources and hearing about the impact that their support has had.”

Poppins is a specialist second-hand children’s-only retailer offering affordable pre-loved children’s items.

The shop puts its profits back into the community to support local children’s projects, clubs, and groups in Somerset by providing essential goods, equipment, and resources.

The middle school, which has nearly 600 pupils aged from nine to 13 years, is currently awaiting the result of a recent inspection by Government appointed Ofsted inspectors.

Mrs Mackie said she was ‘extremely proud of the entire school community’ and how the school was showcased to the visiting inspection team.

She said: “I would like to especially thank all those that completed the surveys, made comments, or spoke directly to the inspection team, and the support and kindness that was shown to me and my team.

“I am lucky and privileged to work with such a fantastic group of young people and a team of dedicated, caring, and committed professionals.”
