THE West Somerset Railway’s second 1960s weekend event, celebrating the funky styles of the era and the use of the railway in The Beatles' movie A Hard Day's Night, proved a popular success.

There were live music performances from the Pashy Pops, at Blue Anchor Station, and Helen Pearson and a Beatles tribute band in Minehead.

On the Sunday, there was a display of classic cars in Minehead and a variety of 60s exhibits at various points along the tailway line.

A number of 60s enthusiasts dressed up for the event and the railway ran mixed steam and diesel trains evoking the flavour of the era.

One participant, Asia Wetherell, said: “It was a fun occasion and a chance to wear an original 1960s ‘going away’ dress I had.”

One of the organisers, Robin Wichard, said: “Although circumstances beyond our control meant that we had to cancel the dance at short notice, other planned entertainments went ahead regardless and the Plastic Beatles were able to perform on the Saturday afternoon instead.

“With a 1960s ‘police officer’ keeping everybody under control, a good time was had by all despite the occasional shower.”
