FLOOD-hit Butlin’s Minehead holiday resort will continue to be affected by the damage it suffered in last Sunday’s (September 17) storm for another four weeks.

The resort re-opened on Friday (September 22) after a four-day closure when many of its chalet accommodation units were inundated by the heavy rainfall.

But the company said it was still having to cancel holidays for some customers who had booked family and Big Weekender breaks up to October 19.

A spokesperson said: “We have had damage to a small number of our accommodation units and though we have looked at all alternatives, we are sorry to confirm that we will have to cancel a small number of bookings for breaks taking place up until October 19.

“We have not taken this decision lightly and we know how disappointing this is.

“We have tried everything possible to accommodate all of our guests.

“We would like to thank everyone who is due to come to our Minehead resort in the coming days, for your patience and understanding.

“We have spent the last few days assessing the extent of the damage to resort following the exceptional rainfall and flooding across Somerset on Sunday.

“We know this will cause worry. We are working through allocations, moving guests to available units, and we will be in touch with everyone impacted by the end of next week.

“We will work in date order, so please bear with us as we prioritise those breaks impacted this weekend and Monday.”

The spokesperson said for any affected break the lead guest on the booking would receive an SMS or email outlining the options, which include a break move or a full refund.

For anybody who did not receive an email or SMS from Butlin’s, it meant their break was going ahead as planned.

The spokesperson said: “Our facilities, including Splash, fairground, and entertainment venues are back up and running and our team look forward to welcoming you.”

On social media some guests who were affected by last weekend’s flooding praised Butlin’s staff for their efforts

Sharon Davis said: “We were there when it flooded. I want to congratulate all the staff for keeping us all fed and entertained. You all did a brilliant job.”
