THE annual traditional agricultural Dunster Show returns on August 16 for its 176th anniversary on the lawns below Dunster Castle.

The show celebrates ‘all that is great about the countryside’ from traditional crafts and vintage tractors to the modern machinery in use today.

All the family favourites will again be present with horses, cattle, sheep, a shopping village, fairground, and entertainment in the main ring.

The main arena attractions this year include the world’s premier military-style motorcycle display team The Imps, famous for their red jackets and striking white helmets, while Hawkeye Falconry will allow the crowds up close to some of its birds of prey.

The ever-popular vintage machinery parade, horse, cattle, and sheep parades, all make a return.

Set around the main ring there will be a shopping village boasting a number of local and national businesses selling everything from modern day agricultural machinery to hand-crafted jewellery, country clothing, range cookers, and pottery.

The food and craft halls will offer treats and temptations for all, from oysters and Champagne to cheese and cider, handmade jewellery to fine art.

Horses and ponies will be shown in a number of rings and include some prestigious qualifying classes for the London International Horse Show.

Visitors will also find many traditional breeds, including local favourites the Exmoor Ponies and the popular Shetlands.

A bustling livestock show will have cattle, sheep, and fleeces being presented as well as a spinning demonstration.

A spokesperson said: “The magical Dunster Show truly has something for everybody and is an amazing celebration of West Somerset and Exmoor rural life.

“It is a ‘must’ day out for visitors to the area and locals alike.”

Tickets will be available on the gate at £20 for adults, £18 in advance, children under-16 free with a paying adult, and free parking.
