THE main A39 road through West Somerset is to be closed for up to three days next week as urgent repairs are carried out.
A section between Nether Stowey and Cannington will be shut from 7 am to 7 pm daily for the road to be surface dressed by Somerset Council’s highways team.
The work will start on Tuesday (August 8).
The council said the closure was needed for the safety of the public and the workforce, but the road would be kept open at night to ‘minimise disruption’.
Executive Cllr Mike Rigby said: “Surface dressing is an important part of our annual summer programme.
“All the motorists who use this busy stretch of road will benefit in the long term from this work taking place.
“Thank you for your patience, should you experience any short-term disruption.”
Cllr Rigby said pedestrian access would be allowed for residents and businesses in the immediate area, and a diversion would be in place for motorists.
Emergency services and large HGVs would be allowed through during the hours of closure.
