RESIDENTS of Watchet are being urged to support an online fund-raising drive to help pay for Father Christmas to visit town this year.
The Watchet Town Centre Group is organising the annual late night extravaganza which starts at 5pm on Friday, December 6, and sees shops open into the evening with entertainment and activities around the town centre.
The event should also see the special arrival of Father Christmas and children will be able to write a letter to him.
But spokeswoman Tracey Clark said: “As we all know, everything has gone up, including all the street entertainers, the gifts from Father Christmas, and other costs.
“We have been working hard this year doing our own fund-raising but we are still a little short, so we thought we might ask for a little help.
“We will be extremely grateful for all and any donations.”
The town centre group is hoping to raise £200 toward this year’s costs from online donations here and has already received £160.
A Christmas market will be held in Watchet Boat Museum, and a crib festival will take place in the town’s Methodist Church.
Watchet Town Band, the West Somerset Brass Band, West Somerset Morris dancers, Watchet Community Choir, and an Elliot’s Touch festive tunes DJ will all be helping to provide entertainment on the night.
There will also be stilt walkers, fire and light spinners, and an elf door trail around town, a children’s art exhibition, and plenty of festive food and drink.
