THE main A358 Williton to Taunton road reopened in time for the evening home time rush hour on Tuesday (July 16) following a two car smash which blocked the carriageway in both directions.

The collision happened on the Pen Elm Hill stretch of the road not far from the Royal Marines Norton Manor Camp headquarters at about 1.30pm.

One person suffered injuries which were said to be not life-changing or life-threatening.

The crash involved a red Kia Sportage and a silver Skoda Fabia close to the Monty’s Lane junction and quickly saw long queues of traffic building up.

Temporary traffic lights were already in use near the junction while Wessex Water engineers carried out water mains work.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said police officers attended the crash scene together with ambulance service crews and the road was closed to allow the two vehicles to be recovered.
