ASHBRITTLE made sure of winning the first division championship in the West Somerset Cricket League after beating main rivals Kilve at home by 109 runs.

It was their 13th victory in 15 matches - one was cancelled - and enabled them to stretch their lead over Kilve to 99 points.

Put into bat, Ashbrittle scored 230-6 with opener Andy Hill hitting 94, with 14 fours and two sixes. Sam Shaikh also scored 50 while Jay Darrell took 3-45 and Rio Rock 2-25.

Kilve were in all sorts of trouble when batting, losing their first three batters with only 27 runs scored. W Munro scored 28 and Josh Taytlor was 28 not out. Steven Grant snapped up 3-24, Mark Lovell 2-43, Callum White 2-41 and Ollie White 2-12.

Bagborough, in third spot, gained a massive 225-run home win against Over Stowey. Batting first, Bagborough scored 273 all out in their 40 overs with Blake Jones (74) and Craig Swimbuurne (68) being their main scorers. James Swailes took 6-27.

Only Simom Burland (12) managed double figures as Stowey were bowled out for 48 in 12 overs, their last four batters making ducks. Matthew Rafill (5-25) and Daniel Matthews (5-19) proved unplayable.

Bridgetown, in fourth place, gained a 161-run home success against East Huntspill. The home side, put into bat, piled up 288-3 in their 40 overs with Dan Sizer scoring 106 with 16 fours and two sixes. C Wookey was 80 not out. Huntspill were dismissed for 127 in 24.3 overs with C Wookey finishing with figures of 4-21 and D Cross 3-36.

In the only other game played in the top division, bottom side Churchinford lost at home to Brompton Ralph by seven wickets despite scoring an impressive 280-4 in their allotted overs. Churchinford, who chose to bat first, put on 111 for the first wicket with Chris Roberts scoring 62 and Andy Layard 82 in quick time.

Brompton were also given a great start by openers Will Ruell (60) and Steve Lake ( ), while Robert Chiplin cracked 91 not out and Olly Hale 31 not out. There was one wicket each for Roberts, Sandra Spall and Kristian Morgan.

New champions Watchet completed their programme of games in Division Two, beating Crowcombe at home in style by nine wickets. The visitors were bowled out for 89 with L Willets scoring 25 and R Baker 24. L Woolgrove took 4-24 and N Virgin 3-10. J Weetch (33 not out) and A Harrison (36 not out) steered Watchet to a comfortable win.

 

Lydeard St Lawrence won away by six wickets against Roadwater who scored 258-6 with R Cornish (81) top scoring for the losers while opener B Luxton was 68 not out and O Luxton 78 not out for the winners.
