TWO talented athletes from West Somerset College have once again earned the prestigious opportunity to represent Somerset Schools at the English Schools National Cross Country Championships in West Sussex next month.
Fran Wright and Ollo Rambe competed for the Sedgemoor Area at the Somerset Schools Cross Country Championships, held at RNAS Merryfield. Despite the challenging course, both athletes delivered outstanding performances.
Fran placed 4th in the Intermediate Girls’ race—a particularly impressive achievement as she still has another year in this age group. Ollo also showcased his strength and determination, securing 5th place in the Intermediate Boys’ race.
Their performances earned them a spot in the 10-strong Somerset Schools team for the South West Schools Championships.
Fran and Ollo also travelled to Cornwall to compete in the South West Schools Cross Country Championships. In addition to representing Somerset, they were both competing for one of the eight available places in their age groups for the English Schools Championships.
Fran finished 39th overall and was the 4th Somerset athlete to cross the line in the Intermediate Girls’ race. Ollo placed 36th overall and was the 3rd Somerset athlete to finish in the Intermediate Boys’ race.
With these strong performances, both athletes secured automatic selection for the national championships.
