MINEHEAD will be looking to maintain their bid for promotion in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League when they play at home to sixth-placed Stockwood Green on Saturday, February 15 (3p.m.).

Minehead are lying fourth in the table, with games in hand on the two teams immediately above them - Wrington Redhill and Ashton & Backwell United - but they trail leaders Congresbury by 11 points - and they have also played one more match than the tabletoppers.

Minehead go into the game without Rob Vickers, Guy Burns, Ollie Hall, Martyn Phillips and Ryan Wilkins, but manager Craig Carr says there are not likely to be many changes following the 2-1 home win over Clutton last weekend.

“I’ve built up a big squad,” said Carr who is in his first full season in charge of the seasiders. “I thought our second-half performance against Clutton was our best for some time. We have a young squad and we are enjoying our football.”

Stockwood go into the game on the back of three successive victories, the latest being last Saturday when they won 2-1 at home to Ashton & Backwell, which prevented them going second in the table.

Meanwhile Watchet Town, lying just above the relegation zone in the Premier Division, find themselves without a match on Saturday. They are well up with their fixtures and have only six more games in which to haul themselves out of trouble.

Club spokesman Nick Sully said: “Obviously we need as many points as we can. We had almost an entire side missing for the game against Yatton & Cleeve United (lost 4-0 at home).

“It would have been nice not to have had a game last weekend, than this Saturday.”

Two of the sides below Watchet - Worle and Timsbury - both have fixtures on Saturday and Worle will go above Watchet if they beat Uphill Castle.
