MINEHEAD Reserves missed out on winning three successive matches when they went down 3-2 away to Redgate in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday League.

The game was fairly evenly balanced early on with both sides struggling to get to grips with the poor pitch but Minehead started to get in the ascendency with the strong midfield of Sam Jackson, Oli Reaney, Dan Vickers and 17 year old Harvey Henderson all trying to not let the pitch make them resort to long balls.

However with the defence of Myles Campbell-Farmer, JJ Knight, Andy Gubb and Charlie Disney looking solid from the start it was against the run of play when Gubb was adjudged to have handled in the box and the Redgate striker calmly slotted the ball home.

After 35 minutes though a fine move resulted in a ball in from the left by Jackson finding Riley Pope who still had work to do to but calmly brought the Blues level.

Ten minutes into the second half Minehead brought on the impressive Tatenda Mashiri whose strength and work rate added to the Blues’ cause. Harvey Lovell and Oli Jones also provided fresh impetus and Minehead continued to be the better team and have the majority of possession.

With 18 minutes to go Vickers made one of his trademark runs from midfield, passed the attack to be found well by Mashiri and to put the Blues ahead. There looked to be only one winner. However on 82 minutes Redgate drew level and with the very last kick of the game the defence failed to mark on the right hand side and the striker scored again to the dismay of all involved with Minehead in a loss that they allowed but nonetheless was hard to take.
