BAGBOROUGH produced the result of the day in the West Somerset Cricket League by beating leaders Ashbrittle by 109 runs in the first division.
It was the first defeat of the season for Ashbrittle although they still have a 37-point lead at the top of the table.
Despite losing both openers Tom Eve and Jed Glanville with only four runs scored, Bagborough went on to hit 202-8 with Blake Jones scoring 65 not out, Craig Swimburne 52 and James Middleton 32. Callum White took 3-25. It ended a run of eight successive victories for Ashbrittle who had looked unstoppable until last weekend.
Ashbrittle never recovered from losing four wickets for 25 runs and were bowled out for 93 in 28.1 overs with Steve Grant being their top scorer with 46 not out. Matthew Refill took 4-13 and Henry Stirzaker 5-24.
Champions Kilve maintained second place after they gained a five-wicket away win over East Huntspill who were dismissed for only 107
Bridgetown, in third spot, won by 155 runs when they entertained Morebath. The home side scored 310-5 with Freddy Stevens making 130 with 17 fours and five sixes. Kenny Cross knocked 40, Dominie Osborne 36 not out and Ben Luxon 31.
Morebath were bowled out for 155 with Miguel Tenreiro being their top run-maker with 30. Tom Gliddon snapped up 3-46, Chris Wookey 3-53 and Osborne 2-28.
Fourth-placed Over Stowey won by four wickets at Churchinrord who batted first and made 163 all out with Tom Yeabsley scoring 38 and Andrew Layard 23. Openers Kieran Barrow (41) and Hayen Langlois (62 not out) steered Stowey to victory.
Brompton Ralph are still without a victory after they lost a thrilling match by one wicket away to Stoke St Mary who won for only the third time this summer.
Robert Chiplin topscored with 76 as Bridgetown scored 202 all out. Luke Barrington also scored 30. Dan Callow took 5-60 and Cj McKenna 3-28.
Stoke owed victory to their last pair Callow (31 not out) and Paul Gardner (9 not out) who came together when 24 runs were still needed - and Brompton looking set to end their lead spell. Earlier Daniel Batchelor had scored 30 and Richard Hingston 17.
Meanwhile, Ashbrittle will be looking to bounce back when they play away to Bridgetown this coming Saturday, July 6, while Kilve will be looking to keep up the pressure when they play away to Over Stowey.
At the other end of the table, bottom side Churchinford will be looking for their first success of the season when they play at home to Stoke St Mary.
Brompton Ralph, too, will be anxious to get off the mark when they visit Bagbroough who have won their last three fixtures.
