CUTCOMBE notched up their fourth win in Division Three of the West Somerset League when they beat visitors Wiveliscombe Seconds.
Invited to bat first Cutcombe openers Mark Matravers with 33 and Lee Baker gave the hosts a good start, taking the total onto 77 after which it was Elliott Binding who came to the wicket and played the innings of a life-time
During the course of 80 balls the batter blasted his way to an unbeaten 198 runs in a spectacular display of hitting which included 29 fours and 10 sixes. Whilst he was at the wicket Elliott Binding added 92 with Baker who made 47 for the second wicket, 94 with Ella Pursey for the seventh and an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 58 with Lennon Howe who remained unbeaten on 20, as Cutcombe ended on 371 for eight.
The visitors used 11 bowlers with Charlie Thorne the most successful, ending with three for 67 from his seven overs.
When the visitors replied they lost an early wicket before Stuart Denyer came to the crease and took the total onto 58 before Calum Thorne was out for 48, bowled by James Gregory.
Wivey then lost two further wickets before Denyer was joined by Charlie Thorne and between them the fifth wicket pair saw the total onto 191 when Denyer was caught by Ben Pursey off James Gregory for 114 which came off 81 balls and included 17 fours and five sixes.
Charlie Thorne was next to go for 48 another wicket for Gregory, after which Jack Warren made 13, Max Routley 12, Ian Pincombe 19 and Stuart Sinnott 16 before the visitors were all out for 273 in 38.1 overs. James Gregory took six for 27 from his 6.1 overs.
Meanwhile, Fitzhead beat Minehead 3rd XI by 72 runs in Division Three of the West Somerset League.
After being asked to bat first the home side posted 160 for six from their 40 overs. The Fitzhead total was built round an unbeaten 51 from their ‘keeper Mike Morrish who received good support from opener Alex McKenna who made 14, Dan Rottenbury who hit 24 and Jamie Turner with 16.
Pick of the Minehead bowlers was Ranjeesh Krishnan who claimed three for 21 from his nine overs, while Jack White ended with two for 47.
When Minehead responded skipper and wicket-keeper Vishnu Kombath was the stand out performer. Batting at the top of the order Kombath made 29 while at the opposite end a number of wickets fell.
Lower down Sam How made 13 and Charlie Penny hit 16, but it was not enough to prevent Minehead being bowled out for 88 in 19.2 overs. Neil Mullins returned figures of nine overs, five wickets for 40 runs.
