MINEHEAD Cricket Club are running three sides in the Taunton and District Youth Cricket League - at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15.
All of the sides were in action over last weekend and the teams enjoyed mixed results, but whatever the outcome the players all gave of their best and got pleasure from playing.
On Sunday morning Minehead Under 11s came up against a really strong Taunton Deane bowling attack and were soundly beaten.
Taunton Deane batted first and scored 260 in their 16 overs while in reply Minehead consistently lost wickets and were only able to reach 160 in their 16 overs. However the team has been making progress and will look forward to a better performance against Wiveliscombe when the sides meet this Sunday.
On Friday evening Minehead Under 13s had a splendid victory over their Bridgwater counterparts. Minehead batted first and reached 127 for six from their 20 overs with captain Logan Harrison leading the way with 31 retired, while Josh Dyer scored 28 and Ben Cobb made 23.
Bridgwater were only able to reach 111 for four off their 20 overs as Minehead bowled and fielded really well with two wickets for Logan, and one each for Ben and Josh.
Minehead Under 15s played a double header against Wedmore, winning the cup match and losing the league game.
In the 20 over league match, Minehead batted first and reached 121 for six off 20 overs, Noah James 36, Charlie Penny 25 and Lennon Howe who was unbeaten on 17 were the main run scorers. In reply Wedmore reached their target with four balls to spare led by captain Fynn Monson 50 retired and J Turrell 21. For Minehead there were three wickets for Ollie Ahern and one each for Charlie Penny and Sam Cobb.
In the 10 over cup match Minehead made 80 for three , Sam Cobb scoring 35 not out and Noah James with 21 were the main scorers. Wedmore reached 50 for six from their 10 overs with none of the batters able to dominate the Minehead bowling.
Sam Cobb and Harry Swann both took two wickets each and Ollie and Charlie one apiece.
This coming weekend Minehead Under 13s are at home to Ilminster on Friday evening. On Sunday morning Minehead Under 11s host their Wiveliscombe counterparts while Minehead Under 15s travel away to play Taunton Deane Under 15s (Tigers).
*Meanwhile, there is a full programme of games in the Taunton Youth League on Friday (June 7) with Wiveliscombe away to Over Stowey in Under 13 8s West. Brompton Ralph play at Staplegrove while Stogumber are away to Taunton Deane Greens.
In Under 13 11 a side, Minehead Pirates entertain Ilminster Bears while Wellington are away to Taunton Deane Falcons.
