MINEHEAD Cycling Club members were in action on Sunday on their mountain bikes.
Best result was Ed Welsh at the Southern Enduro, who was fourth in his class in 2 hrs 23 minutes. Ed said afterwards: " I rode very stiff and struggled to let go of the brakes, but I was glad to make it through with no crashes or broken bones this time".
The local rugby club kindly hosted the Hope MTB Marathon, one of a series of three staged around the country. Matthew Waddams was the fastest Minehead CC member, taking just 4 hrs 13 minutes for the very hilly 41 miles route.
Louise and Stephen Crossman, Janet Hewlett and lots of Minehead Merlins were also out on the various routes which were very tough, including a climb to Dunkery Beacon.
Rain held off during the event but parts of the route were quite a challenge because of the heavy rain from the day before. The distance and the hills will have left the 350 visiting riders with no doubt that MTB routes on Exmoor have the ability to test your fitness and skills to the very edge.
