THE latest trophy competition which was played by the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors Section took place on Wednesday when they took part in the New Century Cup - a pairs event which was played as a Pinehurst Greensomes Stableford.
With a fine day in prospect to welcome the pairings and the course in excellent condition, it was no surprise that there was some excellent scores recorded during the round.
The decisive and clear winners of the cup with 49 points were Chris Durman and Edward Frewin, both players currently hitting a rich vein of form.
Three pairs returned with 44 points but after count back second place was claimed by Dave Ball and Mike Kelly, with Martin Hole and ‘Tiny ‘ Welford claiming third place and Malcolm Overton and Tony Connolly taking fourth spot.
A Florida Scramble was played on Friday when once again there were perfect late summer conditions. The winning team with 61 points were Mark Ruttley, Roger Green and Pete Heddercott.
The runners up with 62 were Dave Oatridge, Tony Connolly and Edward Frewin, while third place on countback with 64 went to Rob Poirrier, Richard Austwick and Neville Parsons.
