Dulverton Town 2 Dunwear Res 1
Taunton and District Saturday League Division Two
DULVERTON Town played host to high flying Dunwear Reserves on Saturday afternoon and after a closely fought encounter it was the hosts who ran out the winners by a single goal.
For the home team Dave Kelland returned to the side at centre back with Vince Towers replacing Tom Blundell in midfield.
Town started a little nervous and allowed Dunwear to grab an early goal.
However Town did not let that deter them and the midfield three of Towers, Carey and Coutts started to control the midfield as the half progressed.
It was Coutts who started a smart move linking up with striker James Kelland, and ended up with a fantastic run by Giles Brock down the left.
When his cross to Angus Macdonald led to him hitting the post, Brock was there to score the rebound to put the hosts into the lead.
There were no further goals in the first half and it remained 1-0 to the home team at the break.
Town came out with even more energy in the second half and with Macdonald moving in midfield, the hosts were fully controlling the game.
It wasn’t long before substitute Dan Eales sprinted down the right wing and crossed a lovely ball over to James Kelland whose header just missed the target.
Adam Chamberlain was brought on and he had a similar chance a few minutes later but again his header went just wide.
Town were ramping up the pressure, with the back four of Kelly, Jones, Burke and skipper Kelland each thwarting any Dunwear attacks, resulting in the visitors attempting multiple shots from the half way line much to the amusement of home keeper Carl Hooper.
With time running out, Dulverton Town were not worried, as they continued to play quick penetrating football and were rewarded when substitute Ellis Thomas who’d only just entered the field, skinned his full back and put a cross on a plate for Chamberlain to smash home the winner.
One audacious lob effort from Dunwear with minutes left led to a great save from Hooper but other than that Town’s performance was impressive, built on a solid defensive foundation and an attack minded style of play straight from the off.
The game finished 2-1 with the Dulverton Town Man of the Match was voted as Romano Carey.
As a result of this game Dulverton Town move up to fifth place in the table.
Next Saturday Dulverton Town host Porlock Reserves, who lost 7-4 to North Petherton on Saturday, in the local West Somerset derby match, the match kicking off at 2.30pm.
