MINEHEAD Reserves’ tough season in the Premier Division of the Taunton & District Saturday Football League continued with a 3-2 away defeat by Bridgwater Wolves - a result that was once again difficult to accept.

Minehead started with a bare eleven with defender Luke Heath being delayed. Some juggling saw players playing out of position but with a vastly inexperienced side they settled into the game well.

Jack Harding, back in goal, was his usual authoritative self and with a defence of Oli Jones, Charlie Disney, Harvey Lovell and 16 year old Myles Campbell-Farmer stepping up, they kept Wolves at bay.

Andy Hall, Dan Vickers, Olly Prescott and Lewis Goodrum worked hard and it was the Blues who played the better football in the first half. It was from one of these forays forward that Luke Batts, in his first reserves start, poked the ball home for a Minehead lead at half time.

The second half could not have started better. With Jani Jasielczuk arguably having his best game of the season Minehead pushed for a second and Olly Prescott came up with the goods, striking a ball from 35 yards that left the Wolves keeper clutching at thin air.

However Wolves responded well and with Minehead beginning to tire with fresh legs not available, it was Wolves who scored. The game started to get tetchy and with off the ball scuffles breaking out Wolves drew level.

They thought they had the winner with 20 minutes to go but it was ruled offside by the officials. However, it was only a matter of time now and with Minehead desperately looking to hang on for a much needed point it was Wolves that brought about a very good comeback.

The final action of the game saw another “handbags” incident that saw Goodrum and a Wolves player seeing red.

This was a disappointing result for the Blues losing another game by the odd goal and this week sees a welcome break from league action with Uphill Castle Reserves visiting the Rec in the County Cup.

Man of the Match: Olly Prescott.

Meanwhile, Minehead Reserves find themselves bottom of the table with only one point from their opening six matches.

Galmington maintained their six-point lead at the top after gaining a 4-2 away win over Wyvern United who were on level terms at half time.

Porlock beat North Petherton 3-2 at home to stay 100 per cent after three matches while Redgate were 4-1 home winners over Wellington A who won the first division title last season.
